Updated the mail list – if you don’t want on the email list, let us know!
Short update:
- Winter season starts week of Feb. 17 – if you want in, it is limited to 8 members, personal share only, limited delivery possible. There will be another longer update in a couple weeks with more detail.
- Winter is being different, yet again. This week should have some cold nights in it, but will be dry. The garden prep is done as we can get to it. The big problem right now is a major infestation of Voles. Every week more bait is put out, more Castor Oil sprayed on their runs. Sigh.
- Major crop seeds such as potatoes and squash are being ordered. A couple of additions coming, including a Radicchio and some very interesting winter squash.
- The communication problem is getting to be an issue. Reliance on FB to update you is fraught with peril. There are only three options that we know of:
- Email – and not all of you read email daily.
- Text Messages – which are annoying to me, so I assume that they are annoying to you. That said, if you need an ‘alert’ about an update to say the web site, a text message list can be created.
- FB – ‘Boyce’s Shilofarm CSA’ – which is where we tend to post every few days about some interesting thing, and include a tag of a link to the weekly and monthly posts on the web site.
- The web site is or seems to be the most stable way to keep things up to date. There are static pages that have general info (e.g. “www.shilofarm.com/csa”) and the posts that mirror what is put out on email.
- Any suggestions for getting out information would be welcome.
- Brochure – The CSA brochure is on the to do list for today. One member wants an electronic copy or a hard copy to share with friends. That is really helpful, most of the CSA members are from word of mouth info. The plan of the day is that as we start distribution a couple of brochures will be stuffed in the box for you to entice. A free jar of Jelly is a reward.

All that to say, this week is busy. Today’s project is to once again hit the voles, work on some bed prep, and keep on gardening!
