Coming to Shilofarm is a great chance to be at an operating farm, not an entertainment venue. There are people who love the hands-in-the-dirt farming experience but can’t do that in their living situation – one mom brought her two youngsters determined to teach them what farming is all about – for multiple weeks over the summer. They spent quite a bit of time in the woods, in the garden and feeding the calves and horses.
Additionally, there have been a few times where a small group of students have come to ‘get their own veggies’ from the CSA. This is something that is absolutely a joy and pleasure for the farm to support and encourage.
The last thing to mention is that there are times when a person just needs to get away and take a walk. This isn’t common, but it does happen. There are miles of trails in the woods; so far, everyone who has gone has come back.
